Spanish Welcome Page
My name is Gicela Salgado and I am the Spanish teacher at Cathedral Chapel School. This week your child will go through a very important stage in their lives- the first day of school. I am very happy and excited to start this new school year and share my passion for the Spanish language and culture with your child.
I am a Spanish native speaker and teach Spanish using Comprehensible Input (CI). Comprehensible Input, or CI, is the best way to acquire a language naturally. CI refers to the target language that students hear in class and even though they may not be understanding each and every word, they begin to recognize certain structures through repetition.
I will be teaching the Spanish language and culture using TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), reading selections, visual arts, discussion, songs or music, movie talk, dance, visuals as prompts, drawings and and picture sequences, movies, websites and maps.
I am excited to be working with your son/ daughter. Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow.
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is a very important tool for student success. Throughout the year I will be communicating through: notes, phone, email, report cards, and conferences.
I wait for you on the first day of school!
